Beginning his career in 1990 under British Railways as a Shunter and progressing through the footplate grades at Stratford Traction Maintenance Depot, John obtained his most senior permanent position as Professional Head of Operations for Balfour Beatty Rail covering the UK and Ireland.

In 2016, John felt the time was right to assist the industry as a consultant and assist numerous Railway Undertakings and Infrastructure Management companies to deliver various projects. Project have involved leading on health & safety, along with operations and developing Safety Management Systems to allow Safety Certificates and Safety Authorisations to be obtained, along with operating licences from Safety Authorities to allow companies to operate in the UK and Ireland. 

Additional projects have also included mobilising and delivery of operations and analysing and leading on change for other companies to ensure improvements in safety and operational delivery.
